Ima Lazy Blogger

Yes...Sorry people, I am lazy lazy lazy lazy.

It's been quite some time since I started this blog and now I am only at the 70th post. Compared to my sister's blog which has upwards of 1000 posts... =_="

Anyway, I got distracted by the Mobile World Congress 2009 that was held in Barcelona for the past whole week. It's one of the "big deal" event for the hand phone and communications industry. No, I did not go to Barcelona if you are wondering. I am merely following the event through online technology and mobile phone blogs... This is the internet age lah, what do you expect? =D

So, about the MWC2009, It definitely has a lot of hype around it. If you don't already know...

- Microsoft announced the new Windows Mobile 6.5 there (which is an update of the current v6.1).
- More Android based phones are coming up
- The first hand phone with integrated projector was announced
- More touch screen phones
- Sony Ericsson announced it's 8 megapixel Walkman phone... W995
- Sony Ericcon also announced it's upcoming 12.1 Megapixel Symbian based phone... Idou
- More touch screen phones
- More eco-friendly technology and plans for the future...

Ah... what can be better than the MWC 2009? New technology fresh from the manufacturers, new innovations, new phones, new firmwares... Mmm mmm... But I must say, there's too much hype around those touch screen phones that keep coming and coming and coming from all around the world. It seems that the whole mobile phone industry is moving towards the touch screen era. Everyone's getting a lil "touchy-feely" here. XD

Ever since the oh-so-famous-and-overly-hyped Iphone came out, ALL the other touch screen phones made by other manufacturers have been dubbed "Iphone-killer", "Iphone-alike", "Iphone-competitor", "Iphone-imitation", "Something-Like-Iphone", "Iphone-wannabe", "Iphone-add-whatever-you-want-here", etc. It's as if that there's no other touch screen phone that they can compare to. Sheesh. (I am rambling about the Iphone hype. Haha.) But seriously, I don't think any touch screen phones that are reviewed have not made any reference to the Iphone. Sure, they are considered the "pioneers" of the touch screen phone. But the hype around it is seriously too much. There are other touch screen phones that are technologically more advanced than the Iphone already and yet, everyone still compares it to Iphone. =_="

I guess Apple's marketing team is just too pro.

Anyway, congratulations to my dear Ann June for getting her new phone! (Finally! Yeay!). It's a Nokia 5800 Xpress music. Doesn't ring a bell? Let me give you a hint...there...the touch screen wan ah... Hahaha. Got it? Thanks to her dad, she finally got a new phone. No more dropped calls and shady receptions anymore. Haha. Dubbed "Iphone-killer" in Lowyat Forums, I think it is currently THE hottest Nokia handset in Malaysia now. Thanks to the low price, rich bundle and the omg-way-too-much touch screen hype. Yeay?

Nevertheless, I'm happy for her. =D

So, this is just a minor minor update for the sake of updating. No pictures whatsoever. 'Cause Ima Lazy Blogger.

Overdue update

Hello people! Sorry for such an overdue post. Been um...busy lately? Haha.

Anyway, if you haven't already know, I've finally completed my 3 months training/internship at Hong Leong Yamaha Motor! Yeay!! No more waking up at 7.10, 7.20 and 8.15am! (Yes, i set 3 alarms. 1st one to wake me up and let me sleep again, 2nd one to really wake me up, and 3rd one to wake me up after a short nap after breakfast. I know I am a pig.)

So, after the 3 months of internship, I finally realized that studying is so much better and more relaxing than working. Really. Never never think that working life is nicer than studying. 'Cause when you are studying, you won't get any pressure from other people other than yourself and your parents, whom have been with you since the day you were born. In work, you get datelines, bosses looking over your shoulder once in a while, glances from colleagues to prevent you from falling asleep, and basically everyone's eyes to see you and keep you from slacking. Honestly speaking, I am very prone to "fishing" when I am bored or doing monotonous stuffs. XD

All in all, the whole internship thing was nevertheless an enjoyable, educational and definitely an eye-opener to the life of the working adults. During the course of the training, aside from the academic experiences, I've come into contact with many people whom lifes' experiences have thought me a little or two about life. Ranging from factory workers to white collar executives, the stories they tell and the experiences they share are very different. But most of them will still give you roughly the same story about how working from 9-5 is not the way to get rich. XD

Besides all those, talking and chit-chatting with colleagues are also quite fun. Especially when you found out their interests and get to know one thing or two about it to build a healthy conversation. Then only you will be able to build a better foundation of relationship between each other. If you don't know a single inkling about what the other person is talking about...then all you can respond is "um...yeah..", "oh, really?" and all those phrases that essentially mean nothing. Haha. So, fortunately, a few colleagues in the office shared my interests such as handphones, technology stuffs, etc. which is really great for a conversation. =D

Ok, I think it's about time for some pictures.

C905 Mini Review Part 2

Back to the review...

Media:
Being a high-end phone from Sony Ericsson, C905 packs a pretty nice and all-rounder media player. To access the media player, there's a shortcut on the left softkey in the standby screen. Once you opened it, you'll be greeted by the relatively new media user interface. This interface is similar to the ones in K850, C902, W910...etc. IMO, it looks niceeeeee... Upgrading from an old generation K750/W800, this new media interface is really really good looking and packs more function than the old one. This is done by adding a little more animations and a few transition effects into the interface, which really added the "quality" and "exclusive" feel to it. "Impressive-ness": 9/10. =D

Inside the media player, you will find options to Photos, Music, Video, Games, Web feeds and Settings. This basically covers all your entertainment needs in a phone (except going online). Anyway, I must mention that the photo viewer is good looking. On a 2.4" screen, the photos are just clear and big enough for you to see. Little transition effects are also great to look at. Besides that, one thing I like about the photo viewer is that when you zoom in or out of the photo... it doesn't lag! Yeay! What more are you looking for? Good screen, good colours, good looking effects, smooth functioning. That's about all! =D

On the other hand, there is the Music player! Being an "ex-Walkman phone user", I expect quite alot in the music department. And I can say I haven't been disappointed so far. The music player in C905 is similar to the new generation Walkman phones minus the shake control and sense-me functions. In which I think, is impressive enough. Album art is support here, which is a great thing too! Ok, enough of the looks. Now to the music. 1st thing I realized about the music player is that it fades in and out when forwarding, rewinding, pausing, or playing the next track! Yeay! This means no more cracking of headphones or speakers when changing track! Im really glad that SE added this feature (although I know that it's nothing new anymore). Besides that, the music transitions are smooth and no jerks even when I have 300+ songs in the list. Listening through the speakers are OK. No cracking sounds for normal songs at maximum volume. I'm not sure about heavy rock/ punk rock/ whatever-rock though. Haha. 'Cause I don't listen to them.
Anyway, there are several shortcomings about the music player I want to mention. 1st thing is... the music player doesnt support chinese characters. It's either my encoding's fault, or the player is a "banana" 'cause all its showing is just "?????". Besides that, it would be much nicer if SE would bundle a little visualizations in the music player. No matter how simple it is, it would be nice if there are some coloured bubbles flying around when the music is being played. An equalizer bar would be even nicer. =D

Moving on to videos... Um... I don't really watch home-made videos on my phone. Yet. So I can't really go into detail on this. But so far, all I can say is that the video is smooth, the sound matches the image (no lag) and also the video supports forwarding and rewinding. =D No complains yet.

Games!!! Yes yes yes!!! Hahaha. First thing I want to say is that... gaming on a 240X320 resolution screen is NICE!!! The colours are vibrant and bright in most of the games I tried. Besides that, the load time for the game is also noticeably faster than other older generation phones. Probably due to the faster hardware. I don't know. But is IS a good thing! No more long waits to play a quick game! Yeay! Anyway, as far as I've tested (69 games), C905 has no problem with most of the games except Marble Madness 3D (W910 motion sensitive ball game), which won't load (ran a search online and found that most of the other C905 users can't load it too). Anyway, motion sensitive games are a little hard to find and those that I found are quite boring. Please tell me where to find if you have found nice ones. =D Thank you!
By the way, gaming on the C905 keyboard wasn't as pleasant as gaming on K750's keyboard. This is because the keys are connected and quite hard to "feel" as compared to the K750's keyboard. But oh well, you can't have everything right?

Web feeds are OK, but if you don't have Wi-fi on, I wouldn't recommend you to update it. Besides that, it's pretty much normal. =p And...one last thing about the media player.Which is...I would wish that there are more settings for the whole media plyer besides the "auto rotate", "video out" and "update media" options. I want changeable skin for the media player!!! T_T

Camera:
Ladies and gentlemen... The 8.1 megapixel camera!!! Unfortunately, I am not even an amateur photographer and to me, point and shoot cameras with some manual controls are good enough. Anyway, I'll just be brief in this section and only mention about the user-interface and basic camera functions here. For more detailed reviews on the camera, you can google it. XD
So...8.1 megapixels...is actually 7.9. Haha. Go count you pictures' resolution and you'll know. Besides that, the basic camera functions are pretty good and complete. Different scene modes can cater to most of the basic users' need. IMO, the face detection thing is great, as it really focuses on the persons' face and makes a difference in the outcome. Oh, and one more thing, the flash is really strong. A little too strong for my liking though. Using the flash would make the contrast very high, thus, a big "bright and dark" difference. Therefore, I don't really use it unless it's really nessecary. =p (P.S. Taking pictures in total darkness is possible! But a little blur as the camera don't know where to focus.)
Also, one thing I like about the camera is the "quite useful" photofix function. By just simply accessing the "options" menu, you can choose to photofix your photo and voila! It somehow looks nicer. Haha. Good enough for noobs like me. And...um...nothing else? Haha. Sorry for the let down! I'm really not that good at photo stuff.

Others:
Well, besides all those functions I've mentioned, there is also the radio. Which is pretty much a normal radio function with some minor facelift. Nothing much to elaborate about. Hm... the organiser functions are usual too. Calendars, calculators, notes, tasks, alarms, timer, stopwatch, code memo... All with their inidivual mini facelifts. Which makes the whole thing looks new, which is good too. File manager is in its usual goodness since the older generation. Nothing much has changed in there and it's good too. 'Cause it already is good enough. =D

Conclusion:
Hmm... I think I've pretty much covered most of the common and basic parts about this phone. Of course this review is not as detailed as most of the professional reviews and is strictly IMO only. So... in conclusion, I would say that the C905 has most of the functions that one would ever need in a phone. Other more advanced functions/ specifications would only be hardware improvements and minor upgrades only I think. As the C905 is such a "complete" phone, its price would most probably hang around RM1600 upwards for the first few months. Maybe dropping to RM1500-ish half a year later. If you are thinking of buying a new phone, yes, I would recommend you to buy this one. If you have the budget, buy it now. If not, wait for a few months and you'll be tempted by other newer phones, so, buy it now too. Haha. Anyway, time for ratings!
